Kayaking to a Lavender Farm

Schirm Loop Homestead Lavender Farm

July in Washington heralds the opening of many lavender farms in Thurston County and beyond. One of the most beautiful farms in the region is the Schirm Loop Homestead Lavender Farm. Located on the Northeast side of Eld Inlet, this farm is extra special as it can be reached by kayak. Most Lavender farms open in late June and close by early August and have limited hours that are open to the public.

Launch your kayak at Boston Harbor (rentals also available in the marina) and head northwest. Enjoy the many seals in the harbor and the jelly fish. The journey across should take around 40 minutes. Once on the beach, head up the short steep trail to the farm. The views of Mount Rainier on a clear sunny day is unparalleled. This farm is a feast for the senses! The views of Mount Rainier over the sound are unparalleled coupled with the aroma of lavender and the buzzing of the bees.

Pick your own lavender

The farm offers a variety of crafts made by local artists, homemade lavender oils and soaps and pick your own lavender. Ask for the culinary variety and make your own lavender syrup to enjoy at home.

On returning to Boston Harbor, grab a cup of clam chowder from their snack bar upstairs or a soft serve ice cream from the market. Watch the boats coming into the harbor from the deck or grab a chair on the beach.
